Online DXF File Viewer

Drop a DXF file to see the drawing with its layers, text and dimensions, check its size and measure distances between points. It runs in your browser: nothing is uploaded.

Drop your DXF file hereor click to choose a file. It never leaves your device.

How to open a DXF file online

  1. 1

Drag your DXF file onto the box above, or click it to choose a file.

  2. 2

Pan the drawing by dragging, and zoom with the mouse wheel or by pinching.

  3. 3

Turn layers on and off from the side panel to see only what you need.

  4. 4

Turn on Measure and click two points: the cursor snaps to endpoints, vertices and centers so the measurement is exact.

  5. 5

Check the width and height of the drawing, and save a PNG image of the view.

Before laser or CNC cutting

  1. 1

Make sure the overall size matches the part you expect.

  2. 2

Measure the distance between holes and the diameter of circles.

  3. 3

Check that the file units are right: a drawing in inches read as millimeters comes out 25.4 times smaller.

  4. 4

Turn off the dimension and text layers to see only the outline that will be cut.

What is a DXF file?

DXF (Drawing Exchange Format) is Autodesk's format for exchanging drawings between CAD programs. It is exported by AutoCAD, LibreCAD, QCAD, Fusion 360, SolidWorks, Inkscape and almost every 2D design program.

It is the most widely used format for laser, plasma, CNC router and waterjet cutting, and for sharing architectural and mechanical drawings.

Units

DXF files can store their units in the header. When they do, the viewer shows the real size and you can view it in millimeters, centimeters or inches.

If the file has no units, millimeters are assumed, which is the most common case for laser and CNC cutting. The panel tells you when this happens.

Frequently asked questions

Can I open a DXF without AutoCAD?

Yes. This viewer opens DXF files in your browser, without installing AutoCAD or any other program.

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The file is processed entirely in your browser and never leaves your device.

Does it open DWG files?

No: DWG is a closed Autodesk format. Export it as DXF from your CAD program (Save As → DXF) and open it here.

How do I measure a distance?

Turn on Measure in the viewer toolbar and click two points. Near an endpoint, a vertex or a center, the point snaps so the measurement is exact.

Why is the drawing empty or missing parts?

The parts may be on layers that are turned off or in paper space, which the viewer does not show. Some uncommon entities are not drawn yet either.
